Organic coffee is obtained from crops where no pesticides or synthetic fertilizers have been used and traditional techniques are followed.
The distinctive characteristic of this product is that the coffee trees are fertilized with organic materials prepared through compost and no chemical inputs are applied. The planting and cultivation of organic coffee has enormous benefits both for the preservation of the environment and for the conservation of health.
Another aspect, just as important as the sustainable cultivation practice, is that organic coffees are at the same time coffees marketed with fair trade practices, that is, they support families that invest a lot of work in agricultural production. In most cases, these are low-income farmers who deserve a more decent payment than what conventional coffee markets offer.
Currently, Mexico allocates an area of 30 thousand hectares to the production of organic coffee, located mainly in the states of Veracruz, Chiapas and Oaxaca, and as a leading exporter, it sends more than 28 thousand tons each year to Europe, which is marketed , generally, in health food stores in the main cities of the Old Continent.
The main organic coffee producing states are Chiapas, Oaxaca, Veracruz and Puebla, with a volume of 350 thousand 60 kilo bags of green coffee.
